Daily Announcements for 3/31/2023

There is a clothing drive occurring at LMHS through today (3/31).  Bins are available in the main lobby and the main office.  All donations will be going to "Cradles to Crayons," a nonprofit organization with the goal of abolishing clothing insecurity.  All types of clothing are accepted, except for shoes.  Please help ... imagine how full the boxes would be if just half of the people in the school brought in one item!

Any student that did not receive a Student Planner can pick one up in the principal’s office.

All 18-year-old male students must register for the Selective Service which you can do at www.sss.gov.

There will be a mandatory meeting of the Social Justice Club today (3/30) right after school in the Art room.  Please do your best to be on time.  We are expecting a guest speaker.

Sophomores!  Remember to bring your CHARGED Chromebook to school today for MCAS testing!  Testing begins promptly at 8:00am each day.

The results are in from last week's screen time challenge. Here are your winners:  Middle school lowest average times - 3rd place: Hunter Jones, 2nd place: Mike Millar, and 1st place: Olivia Willey.  Middle school largest percent decrease - 3rd place: Olivia Victor, 2nd place: Joe Maddalena, 1st place: Sam Warner.  High school lowest average times - 3rd place: Hunter Fosby, 2nd place: Kelly Molino, and 1st place: Lilly Reynolds.  High school largest percent decrease - 3rd place: Chenea Hanson, 2nd place: Ren Foster, 1st place: Emma Ranzoni.  Congratulations to the winners. See Mr. McCormack in room B123 to choose your prize.

Daily Announcements for 3/10/2023

The March Screen Time Challenge is in full swing!  All students and faculty members are encouraged to join in.  To enter the challenge, simply go to the table outside of the cafeteria during your lunch period this Friday and show the staff member there your average daily screen time.  This can be found in your phone's settings. 

If you have already joined, that's great! You should still show your screen time to the staff member to see how you did this past week and enter your new time for next week's challenge.  A reminder that any student who reduces his or her screen time will win a small prize and you'll get it today when checking in. This week's top three performers in percent reduction and lowest daily average screen time will win a gift card to Dunkin, Starbucks, or Bagel and Brew. Winners will be announced on Monday.  

There will be a meeting for any girls interested in joining the Girls’ Tennis Team in the cafeteria today after school.

Railroad Street Youth Project is offering Culinary Apprenticeships at Roses in Lee.  Interested in growing your cooking skills?  Then this apprenticeship is for you!  Tuesdays from 3-5 p.m. from March 28th to May 16th.  You have the opportunity to be a part of a Culinary Dinner on Saturday, May 20th!

Please join us for the annual middle school spaghetti dinner on Thursday, March 23rd from 5-7 P. M. at the LMHS cafeteria.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. To purchase your tickets, see any middle school student.

Tickets are available at the door - Adults $10, Students/Senior Citizens $8. Fun for the entire family!  There is a chance you could even spell with us on stage!!

Any students interested in purchasing rolls from Texas Roadhouse please see Ms. Wade!

Railroad Street Youth Project is offering Culinary Apprenticeships at Roses in Lee.  Interested in growing your cooking skills?  Then this apprenticeship is for you!  Tuesdays from 3-5 p.m. from March 28th to May 16th.  You have the opportunity to be a part of a Culinary Dinner on Saturday, May 20th!

Class of 2025 – please turn in all bread and cookie dough orders to Mrs. Maddalena as soon as possible.

Screen tip for the day from Ren Foster:  To reduce screen time, spend more time with friends or family outside. Or go out to watch a movie where phone use is prohibited.

Screen tip of the day from Kaya Haddad: Try setting a timer on your phone and you're not allowed to use it until it goes off. While you're waiting, read a book or clean.

Today's screen time tip is from Mrs. Fielding:

Set yourself a specific daily goal related to your screen time (e.g. I will only use my phone for 2 hours today, or I will put my phone away for the night at 8 p.m.). Get a calendar and check off each day you meet your goal. If you can meet your goal every day for a week, reward yourself!

Today's tip comes from Mr. Cuevas: Blue light from your phone hurts the production of melatonin in your body. This makes it harder to fall asleep and wake up the next day feeling rested. Start using a radio alarm clock, and leave your phone in the kitchen when going to bed to reduce distractions for a healthy night's rest.
